Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas in 2019 as an extremely powerful Category 5 storm, making landfall on September 1 in the Abaco Islands and later on Grand Bahama. With sustained winds of 185 mph and a 23-foot storm surge, it is the strongest on record to hit the country.
